Meet the Components

For those of you new to electronics, follow along with these project videos to see some of the key components and what they do.

1. Potentiometers

We begin by learning how we can vary resistance in systems.

2. Breadboards

A breadboard, also called a protoboard, is used for inventing and prototyping electronics. Breadboards let you connect wires, sensors, microcontrollers and other components without solder. Because it's solderless, it's reusable.

3. LEDs Explained

LEDs are cool! LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. A Diode is a kind of semiconductor. An LED has two leads. This semiconductor light source emits light when activated. You activate an LED by passing a suitable voltage to the leads. Then, the electrons are able to recombine with electron holes in the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. Photons are light.
